slowing down

so much excitement and busyness over the last few days! and i must be getting old because i've been beat way too early every night.

saturday was eight hours of bachelorette party! horse doovers, beverages, party music, appropriate gifts for the bride-to-be, inappropriate games, dinner, comedy, banging dowel rods on tables at some bar...and then i went home, so i don't know what else happened. i don't have a picture, but maybe laura will post one :) she sported a brilliant tiara, pink feather boa and gi-normous plastic ring (she can't wear hers until saturday!!!). she was serenaded by a creepy piano guy at dinner, brought on stage and cheered at the comedy club, and then had an questionable "original" song sung for her at the bar (while a VERY annoying couple danced in a MOST unwelcome manner RIGHT NEXT to our table). just a few more days and you truly will be "our mrs. mikrut" :D

sunday was lunch with our mentor couple, Don & Norma. a traditional dutch dinner at lunch: pot roast! chris had once told me this story about a dutch reformed church. he grew up catholic and one sunday went to a friend's dutch reformed church. at the point in the service after everyone shakes everyone else's hands, they all sat down and IMMEDIATELY began passing and sharing King Mints. Like, literally everyone! As you can imagine, this amused him so. And being like-minded, it amused me as well in the retelling. WELL, since we were having a traditional dutch dinner at lunch, chris referenced king mints and norma said, "No, no. Those are for church!" i almost cried.

sunday afternoon was one more rehearsal for the mikrut matrimonial madness melodies. josh even showed up for a little bit and was able to absorb a preview. i think there were tears...i wasn't really looking. what a happy wedding this will be :)

after an unnecessary amount of laughter and a little bit of singing, it was off to middleville to defend our heavyweight championship against dwight and jenny. feeling confident, we brought along the new "consolation prize", thinking we would leave it there. >sigh< but, no, the belt found it's way back home with dwight and jenny.

final score for the evening:
Wades 4
Dornans 1

however, we're pretty sure we won the FRIENDS scene-it round...we could be mistaken, though, we're a little fuzzy on all the details...

TONIGHT was the highly anticipated intersection adventure to see Vedera and Mutemath. we dragged liz along so that we wouldn't be bored. but she kept shoving me. what's up? i ran into an old college classmate (he's not old, it's just...that college was so long ago...ah, nevermind). young jim from worship team ambled by...he knew someone in the first band. then my fellow lung, alan, appeared later with young lucas. his first rock show ever!!!! they left a little early since bedtime was near, but he certainly looked like he had a little bit of fun. (i don't think he's every offically met any of us, but we high-fived) it ruled. to see a young mind just taking in all the rock-n-roll-y goodness...we're sure he had a good time.

and who wouldn't! mutemath's music translates well onto cd...rock and electronica...but their live show is energetic and surprising. the drummer received cheers and was the center of attention while he duct-taped (yes, duct-taped) his headphones TO his head. there was a little bit of technical difficulty here and there with mics and electronics, but the show went on. paul was jumping everywhere, on top of his rhodes, back to the floor...the cover to his rhodes actually went crowd surfing (a first?) and the KEYTAR was prominent for a good portion of the set.

when a very pumped fan yelled (in a manly manner) "you guys are f*&#in good!" paul stepped up to the mic and inquired, "Mom?" and then dedicated the next song to "mom." rock on. chris introduced me to the lead singer of vedera while she was manning their merch booth. sometimes that's just so awkward. "you guys are great! i love your cd" "thanks!" pause "okay. bye" go back to my seat. (though i didn't actually say good bye, i think i just went back to my seat. or maybe chris said something. he's always saying something. anyway, they were great. the girl can wail.

well, i'm BEAT (big surprise) and ready to fall into a deep sleep. i get to stay home today and work, so that means...pajama pants! (pajama panters unite!)

i've got the rest of the week to rest up until the wedding. if you're there, i'll be one of the girls in black. that's right folks, i will be wearing a SKIRT. this only happens but once every dozen years or so, so don't miss it!

yeah, i'm pretty exhausted too. it's hard to sleep when the moonlight reflects so crisply off that shiny belt of ours.

if it makes you feel any better, jenny was so distraught over losing the friends round that she spent several hours last night honing her skills with on-line friends quizes.

You didn't miss much after you left, except for me hanging my boa out the window of the car and trying on said appropriate gifts over my clothes. Yes, OVER my clothes. There are pictures. Lots of pictures. Have a look:

Maybe i should already know this, but, what medium does the fight over the championship belt take?

love the photos, laura! but there isn't one of you and me...how did that not happen?!

doug, the bitter struggle between wades and dornans involves a highly modern technological advance known as "scene-it." we are hoping to expand the competitive playing field to include other daring folk to pit wit and wisdom against our own. the "scene-it" experience is unmatched when championships and mockery are at stake.
