HAPPY 28TH BIRTHDAY, LISA

Just over 28 years ago I was an only child. I don't remember those days, but I'm sure I was excited to have a sister soon.

i was 2-1/2 years old, and i sure seem excited in this photo!

being the older sister, i'm afraid that i wasn't always nice. the prevailing stories that combined we can remember mostly entail me enticing lisa to do something, which got her in trouble, or convincing her to take the blame completely for something i did.

we look cute in these pictures here because i don't think i had become evil quite yet.
it was in our pre-teen years that i convinced her to throw a neighbor's cat at our dog, Max. the body was never found. and i never got in trouble for it.

for those of you who know us, this picture from october (yes, october) 1985 should explain a LOT.

there's a lot more to our story, but in high school we actually became friends. it was mostly because of a boy. i started going to college in kalamazoo, and that's where i learned that my sister is deathly afraid of escalators. regardless, i got her to ride with me on a tram up the side of a mountain in colorado.

This French shot comes courtesy Lisa's surprise 21st birthday party. she moved in with me just after i graduated from college, and we were roommates until i got married in 2001.

and she was my maid of honor in my wedding, and also played guitar and sang. because she's that cool.

my sister lisa, now 28, is seriously THE coolest girl i know. she has never been afraid to be herself, and i have tried to learn from her example. she is many amazing things; daring, adventurous, funny, loyal, fierce, talented, smart, adaptable, unique. she drives a zamboni, writes letters to guys over in iraq to encourage them, rides her bike to work in the rain, lives in a purple room, loves original nintendo, named her jeep Bunji, is probably addicted to panera and tcby, has the laugh of the century, and might break your ribs if you let her hug you.

i love my sister!
