in the air

this latest warm-up (relatively speaking) makes me want to go walk around outside. it smells like spring, the pavement in our parking lot is dry (if not bordered by piles of snow), birds are chirping every morning and there is just a general sense of rejuvenated life and activity lurking on the periphery.

I read once that smell is the strongest sense connected with memory. when I walk outside, I'm immediately taken back. the crunch of my shoes on the pavement, the smell in the air and the sounds around me...I swear I'm 8 again, heading outside to go play in the driveway or explore the trails across the road, or at grandma's house, headed out for some adventure with lisa, running around in the woods and fields, or maybe playing in the barn.

and so coupled with these images that my body remembers easily, is a sense of a simpler time...being a kid, when life has no complications (except for what to pack in a bag for a jaunty afternoon). and with that comes a great feeling of possibility: what a day could hold, where I could go, what could be accomplished, what could be created or found. I am thrilled to experience such a tangible feeling, and it empowers me.

now I will let it empower me to finish a typing job that I got way behind on. :)
