biking and chickens and beaners, oh my!

this morning lisa and i hit the trail again. unfortunately, dam dogs didn't open until 11am, so we didn't grab any food in rockford. we did pause for awhile at the lookout thing, killing some time thinking they opened at 10.

we also determined today that squirrels and birds could be friends, since they do not compete for the same food source, nor do they prey upon each other for food or shelter needs. in fact, they should be friends, because they could help each other get things they need. we used phrases like "symbiotic relationship" and "barter system". (this whole conversation started when I could have sworn I saw a squirrel and bird playing leapfrog on a side street.)

on our way back, the following scene unfolded:

When pressed for the motivation behind their action, I received no comment.

maybe it's peer pressure...

or some kind of crazy coming-of-age chicken ritual...

but seriously, one at a time, THEY CROSSED THE ROAD.

(it may technically be a trail, but paved = road)

and then there was one...

at about this point we decided to move on. the one all by himself ran (okay, chicken walked) into the woods.

maybe he's more comfortable here...a wild chicken in his natural environs.

or maybe we're just that scary. lisa half-sang to the chickens as we biked past, "Don't peck me!!!"

once back in town we hit up the KFC . . . . coincidence?
sitting in the drive-through,
<--- this is what I saw on the other side of plainfield, and would daresay be a darn good reason for ME to cross the road :)
