joy...chow time in kzoo

i went to kalamazoo on friday and then battle creek today. i had to drive chris' car because my car doesn't hold all the stuff i need to put in it sometimes. *tear* i missed my jeep. i wonder if it missed me *sniff* yes, i am that sad. anyway, chris has david crowder's new cd in the player, and the only song i wanted to listen to all weekend was #15, the joy song (i don't know what the actual title is, but he says "joy" a lot, so i call it the joy song).

If you're ever in Kalamazoo, here's some local flavor to seek out:

Bimbo's Pizza, next door to Club Soda
(who doesn't love pizza cut all up into squares?! besides, you can't beat the atmo)

Wally's Subs, 9th/Stadium
(the best subs ever AND the best fountain Pepsi)

Coney Island, 1 block west of Monaco Bay
(in an old building downtown, just had some touch-ups but maintains the authentic ceiling and off-the-beaten-path feel, if you park behind the building you can enter through the kitchen)

Poor Richard's, Crosstown Parkway east
(good food, cheap food, lots of food, open crazy hours)

The Cheesesteak Grill, Westnedge/Center
(newer, but the best place to get a cheesesteak)

The Root Beer Stand, three locations
(like a Dog'n Suds...pull up, park, order, eat in your car...i don't like the sauce at the portage rd. location, but the one on Westnedge just north of I-94 is great)

Main Street Pub, Gull/Sprinkle (fave of 3 locations)
(two words: fried pickles. the gull rd. and sprinkle location just expanded, hallelujah)

The Big Burrito, KL Ave/Drake
(get a burrito as big as your head, not to mention my favorite salsa)
