helping of heinz

last week it stormed a little bit, or at least there was lightning and thunder. and the thunder made the fire alarm go off in our building. it went on for awhile, and I tried to ignore it. oh, I checked the hall (yes, I touched the door first) and it was hellishly LOUD, and then went outside to look for smoke, but there was none. so I just decided to wait it out. and THEN I heard the sirens. quickly I packed a bag (it had chris' laptop in it, that's it) and grabbed my work bag and went out to my car. russ and sherry who live on the third floor were just standing on their porch. I pretended like I meant to leave and wasn't escaping a possible fire, of which there obviously was none. so I just stood around by my car, watching the firepeople get out and check everything out. I felt bad for them...all three firetruckloads of them...and there being no fire for them to battle with. though I was very happy for me ;)
this picture was taken tonight. we met up with liz to play some tennis, and now that we have tennis skirts we're all about wearing them. (I plan to wear mine when I walk or run on the kent trail...which we're moving mere yards from next month!) unfortunately, when fall really arrives, it gets dark a lot sooner. a LOT sooner. we ended up only being able to play for 1/2 an hour, and the only reason we actually finished a set was because liz and I were sucking it up. BAD. bad bad bad. chris won 6-0. BAAAAAAD.piscin recommends the book cold tangerines by shauna niequist.
this was a week or so ago. lisa and I hit up the KFC...and I broke my spork. yeah. I broke it trying to get it out of the wrapper. shoot. lisa laughed really hard at my face when it happened. (which is why I don't play poker...I couldn't hide my true emotions if I wanted to)
