father's daughter

the older i get, the more I realize how much I'm like my dad. i think it's genetic. i bet it's a V chromosome (or A, if you're looking at it upside down), that predisposes me (and lisa, for that matter) for similar Vehicular (or Automotive) tendencies.

for those of you unfamiliar with where this thought comes from, my dad is a mechanic. he's been running his own shop since 1979. i grew up watching vehicles go in and out of the shop, our lawn, and our life. more often than not dad's held claim to multiple motorized vehicles at the same time, each with their own special purpose. sometimes he would buy them to fix up and sell. sometimes something just struck his fancy. and this is how it has always been. (mom said once that she used to keep a list of all the cars but quit ages ago when she got to 100.)

I refer to this phenomenon as the revolving fleet.

i won't bore you with his current fleet stats, but i will tell you that he built a garage specifically to house just his jeeps.  jeeps plural.  meaning more than one, and definitely more than two.  i believe he actually has 8.

and now, for the first time ever, chris and i have officially achieved fleet status.

in an effort to obtain a vehicle with better gas mileage than the adored bantam menace, we now have more vehicles than there are people in our household (meeting my definition of "fleet").
