differences?

this is our cat, piscin (pish'kin -- Irish for "kitten"), exploring when we first moved into our current apartment. she wouldn't leave me alone today, so i figured it might make her feel better if her image were prominantly displayed . . . though i don't think she really cares, she just wanted some attention. or water . . .

thought i would exercise a different perspective today:

when i was a kid i:

*hated mushrooms, peas and potato salad
*was teachers pet, spelling bee champion and got picked on a lot
*was allowed to check out six library books at a time, weekly
*thought my sister was annoying and tormented her
*daydreamed about unattainable boys falling in love with me
*knew i was in trouble if I got "the eye" from mom
*was told by my mom "don't try to sing like b.j. thomas"
*knew i could prove my dad was the tooth fairy
*named one of my pet cats "pickleface"
*couldn't wait to grow up and live in an apartment
*was chastised for rolling the car windows down in the summer
*said my fave food was an apple, while the other kids' was pizza
*remember the first movie we ever rented: Star Wars
*thought 20 was old
*watched buck rogers, he-man, thundercats and after school specials
*played super mario brothers
*staying up 'til midnight on new year's eve is special
*dressed up for church

now that i'm an adult i:

*hate mushrooms, and also olives
*spell for a living
*would rather go to barnes & noble than a library
*live with my sister and try to get my friends addicted
*married a boy grown tall
*know i'm in trouble when i get a "courtesy pay fee" notice from the bank
*heard that someone referred to me as "marie sheldon, the singer"
*save all my change so i can buy a grande mocha carmel at beaners
*have a cat named "piscin" (pish'kin: Irish for "kitten")
*live in an apartment, my 13th residence since college
*drive a jeep (windows optional)
*my favorite food is Faro's pizza, or sesame chicken
*just rented Full Metal Jacket
*think 20 is soooo young
*watch alias, lost and whatever chris tivo'd
*play ratchet & clank, and sly cooper
*leave new year's eve festivities early to beat traffic
*wear pajama pants to church

it's funny how who we were influences who we become...
that who we were determines the life lessons we must learn...

have you ever noticed that now is never good enough?
do we realize how good we had it then, and how good we really DO have it now?

and why is it that referring to oneself as an "adult" seems downright unnatural?! just TYPING the word physically startled me. i'm leaving it if just for the shock value. makes me feel alive. like being electrocuted but without the electricity.

yes, yes... the realization that I am kind of an adult was a shock to me too... sometimes even three kids and a minivan and having to cook dinner every night doesn't fully convince me that I am grown up. Probably has some connection with our love for pajama pants (and bare feet) at church. Have "adults" always been as young as we are? Or are we part of a generation of new adults that can't seem to grow up? I don't care... I"m hanging on to my ponytails and my favorite winter hat from the Children's Place (that I aptly stole from my son). And you... Miss Marie Sheldon ("You mean the singer??) wear your frog pants and your patched up backpack with pride. We are the world. We are the future.... :O)

First movie my family ever rented: Labyrinth.

What about Voltron? Did you watch Voltron? 'Cause otherwise you're not a REAL 80's androgynoid!
