"letters to a young poet"

this book came recommended by kendall payne and i have to say that anyone who is an artist, thinks they might be an artist, struggles with being an artist, must must MUST read this book. don't be surprised if some day soon i just shove a copy in your hands whether you like it or not.

this is basically a collection of seven letters written from poet raine maria rilke (a guy -- don't let that "maria" stuff fool you) to a struggling poet who had written rilke seeking advice. the book contains only rilke's letters in response. what is amazing is that, despite rilke's own relatively young age (under 30), AND despite his own internal struggles, he shares wisdom.

i'll share more once i've finished this first read-through.

would you believe that i'm listening to the spinners right now?! cupid, draw back your bow...and let your arrow go...straight to my lover's heart...for me...

my poor motown-deprived ears are thanking me!

hi, dwight ;)

so other news, i was nominated for indieheaven's momentum awards (along with literally oodles of other people) for female vocalist of the year and contemporary artist of the year. voting is going on right now at indieheaven, and semi-finalists will be determined by February 15th. final awards will be presented at the CIA Summit, which i am attending the end of march, in franklin, tn.

i went two years ago and learned a lot, so i'm looking forward to going again, learning more and making some new friends. and if you know me, i like friends. (it's easier to think of it like that than as "networking"...which makes me want to rip my tongue out and smack myself about the head and shoulders with it)

other highlights of the new year include a raise, eligibility for quarterly bonuses...

...and a new gas cap.

good luck on the awards and bonuses - and also hurrah for the new gas cap. Big year, eh?
