anniversaries and buried treasure...

so, not only was saturday the 29th my 6th wedding anniversary......it was also a very exciting day for my favorite bass player. a couple months ago I was recruited to help him put together a treasure hunt for his girlfriend...so at the end he could ask her a very important question.we plotted to have the hunt the weekend after her birthday, in the hopes that she would actually believe that the event was for her birthday and nothing more. before a stranger approached her at the restaurant where they were having lunch (giving her only a key and an address) all she knew was he had something planned for her birthday. I saw her a couple nights before at gardellas, and she had no idea what was going on or what to expect, but she was pretty sure (99.99 percent, she said) that he wasn't going to propose (though coworkers and friends were sure he was). he had given her some clues as to what the day would hold, but none of them gave her cause for that kind of suspicion. ethan and ashley spent about 4 hours going all over town (kentwood, eastown, the gaslight village, downtown, grandville and wyoming) to solve clues, find hidden items and perform tasks, approaching the correct people to interact with... and getting their picture taken......sometimes unbeknownst to them :) in the hopes of suspending the inevitable, some clues contained "happy birthday" references to keep her thinking this was only a birthday surprise.there was a treasure map involved that led to buried treasure (the final destination being the location of their very first date) and ethan's chance to ask one of the most important questions a man can ever ask a woman. to which the answer was definitely in the positive ;)
there was a whole crew involved....waiting with clues, hiding across the street to take action shots, calling ahead when they left a clue site, and some even helped conduct a run-through to test the hunt out the weekend before. muchas gracias to all of you!and congratulations ethan and ashley!
